What Is the Earth Day and Why Do We Celebrate?

Earth Day was first observed in 1970, a day dedicated to environmental education, and Earth Day 2022 will take place on Friday, April 22. The holiday has evolved into a global celebration that is occasionally extended into Earth Week; a week of activities centered on sustainable living. Senator Gaylord Nelson founded Earth Day in 1970 as a “national teach-in on the environment” influenced by 1960s protests. It was held on April 22 in order to reach as many students as possible on university campuses. Nelson hoped to bring environmental issues into the national spotlight by increasing public awareness about pollution.

What Is the History of the Earth Day?

Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin, a junior member of the Senate, has long expressed his concern about the country’s rapidly declining environment. And after that, in January 1969, he and a group of others in Santa Barbara, California, witnessed the destruction wrought by a massive oil spill. After being inspired by the student anti-war movement, Senator Nelson felt compelled to combine the energy of student anti-war protests with a growing public awareness of water and air pollution. Senator Nelson announced his plans for a teach-in on college campuses to the national media. He sought the help of Pete McCloskey, a Republican Congressman who is a conservationist, as his co-chair for this. And to organize the campus teach-ins, they also sought the help of Denis Hayes, a young activist. In order to maximize the participation of students, they chose April 22nd, a working-day between Spring Break and Final Exams.

What Can We Do on the Earth Day?

We must first examine our current lifestyles in order to create a sustainable future. Our current lifestyles, unfortunately, are unsustainable. The earth’s resources are depleting at an alarming rate, and unless something is done, these resources will be lost forever. Deforestation, global warming, and species extinction are all consequences of our unsustainable lifestyles. Here are some things we can do to help the environment.

Ride your bike

Find ways to get around while reducing your carbon footprint. The lower the number of automobiles on the road, the lower the amount of carbon emissions that pollute the air and contribute to global warming. One of the best options is to ride your bike or simply go for a walk. Carpool or use public transportation if you don’t own a bike or are unable to ride one.

Buy reusable bags

According to estimates, 100 billion plastic bags are consumed in the United States each year, and approximately 12 million oil barrels are consumed in the production of these bags alone. Furthermore, they occupy a significant amount of landfill space and pose a serious threat to marine life. Rather, buy some super adorable reusable grocery bags to use at the store. You’ll not only look good, but you’ll also be good for the environment!

Install low drain ratio water filter

The Waterdrop G3P800 has a low drain ratio when compared to other under-sink reverse osmosis systems. The reverse osmosis water filter uses breakthrough water-saving technology to reduce the drain ratio to 3:1. Choose this eco-friendly system to help you live a greener life while also saving money on your water bill.

Make a recycling bin creative earth day craft

We decided to open up the recycling bin to see what kind of craft we could make with things we no longer needed, and we came up with this cool recycled robot craft!
What a wonderful Earth Day activity for children of all ages. Younger children, such as toddlers and preschoolers, may create monsters and have ill-defined ideas. Older children can plan ahead of time which items they will use and why.

Conclusion

If we all work together to find solutions to our unsustainable lifestyle, we can make a positive difference in the world. You can help to achieve this goal by making small changes in your daily routine.
